Semiotic Review (formerly known as The Semiotic Review of Books) takes the notion of "semiotics" in its most polyphonic sense, indicating a wide range of research - from the study of signalling behaviour in evolutionary biology through the analysis of the discursive formation of ideologies in human societies; to critical investigations of literary and linguistic theories, all the way to the vagaries of fashion, consumer culture, and the production of political and entertainment spectacles. It endeavours to contribute to the advancement of knowledge by facilitating the communication of the most recent research across disciplinary boundaries. Submissions of various types are welcome:

• Semiotic Review publishes original essays and other interventions that develop similarly critical perspectives exploring semiotic themes and multidisciplinary connections less directly arising from recent books or debates.
• Semiotic Review publishes refereed review articles of recently published books in the Humanities and Social Sciences, and occasionally on the Natural Sciences, whose contents bear upon the study of symbolic and communicative behaviour, cognitive systems and processes, and their social, psychological, philosophical, and biological foundations. Review articles should be limited to the range of 2,000 to 5,000 words. Shorter reviews may be considered, provided they are sufficiently substantial and informative.
• Cultural texts are also republished in an ongoing effort to critically regain the historical and contemporary field of influence of semiotic studies. Original translations of key interventions not otherwise available in English will also be published.
• Semiotic Review may also invite commentary on recent intellectual debates, from both participants and observers, as well as review significant events and conferences of interdisciplinary interest.
• Semiotic Review will also publish thematic issues, by invitation or by submission by guest editors, that address some single semiotic concept or key word from a number of different perspectives. Theme issues will be announced by a call for papers, and the theme issues will remain open to new thematic additions indefinitely.

How to submit

• Please submit manuscript to semioticreview@gmail.com.
• Please send files in Word format, with the title of the article, author name, abstract, and keywords at the beginning of page 1, the text of the article, and any figures or tables at the appropriate spot in the text. Please do not include headers or footers.
• Please indicate end notes with a (1), (2), (3) etc. at the appropriate spot in the text. At the end of your file, after the references section, please list the endnotes sequentially. Do not embed them using the footnote tool in word processing software.
• Bibliographical references should be complete and the style rules basic to our journal editing should follow the Chicago Manual of Style, 17th edition, using the author-date system for citations.

Authors are permitted, and Semiotic Review promotes, to post online the preprint manuscript of the Work in institutional repositories or on their Websites prior to and during the submission process, as it can lead to productive exchanges, as well as earlier and greater citation of published work (see The Effect of Open Access). Any such posting made before acceptance and publication of the Work is expected be updated upon publication to include a reference to Semiotic Reviews’s assigned URL to the Article and its final published version in Semiotic Review.
